At His Haven, we know there are so many Elmira children in need of winter wear as the season changes. We have been so blessed to be able to host clothing giveaway events to offer gentle support to the children in our local community.

His Haven’s Kid’s Coat Giveaway

On Friday, October 14, we welcomed our community to our Southside location for our Kid’s Coat Giveaway. We served 28 children and their families by providing gently used or new coats, hats, gloves, and other cold-weather necessities.

It was so heartwarming to see how many people donated winterwear their kids had outgrown. People love to give to those in need, and we provide them with an opportunity to do just that.

We want to thank Penn Ave. Methodist Church for making and serving more than 125 hot meals during our free community dinner, which took place at the same time.

Don’t Miss Our Jammie Drive!

One of the best parts about winter is warm and cozy pajamas! We’re so excited about our Jammie Drive for children ages birth through 18. That’s coming up quickly on December 9, 2022, at His Haven Southside.

If you have new or gently used pajamas that you’d love to bless someone else with, consider donating them to His Haven!

Other Free Clothing Options in the Elmira Area

If you missed our Kid’s Coat Giveaway and your family is in need, there are many additional ways you can get the support you need.

Bethany Lutheran Church on Elmira’s southside has a children’s clothing closet open on Mondays. Call for an appointment!

The Neighborhood Transformation Center is located on Church Street in Elmira, and they often host community events, including clothing drives.

His Tabernacle Family Church in Horseheads has a ministry called Matthew 25 that often hosts clothing giveaways throughout the year. Every winter, children can receive warm winter coats, hats, gloves, and other items thanks to donors.

Tips for Families: Ways to Find Free or Inexpensive Kids Clothing

Parents with growing families need all the support they can get. If you have struggled to find free or inexpensive clothes for your children, here are some tips that can help.

Tip #1: Make Use of Hand-Me-Downs

Children grow so fast! The clothes that fit your oldest child last year may not fit them again this year. Pass those items on to your younger children. You may even want to ask your family and friends for hand-me-downs too.

Tip #2: Join a Swap Group

Clothing swap groups can easily be found on Facebook, and they’re a lot of fun too. These groups are great for meeting other families and supporting each other as your children grow.

Tip #3: Shop at Consignment or Thrift Stores

Local thrift and consignment stores like The Salvation Army often have great deals and excellent quality too. Shopping at these stores is a fantastic way to save money and find new-to-your-children clothing for any season.
