Under The Tree From Me 2022

Under the Tree From Me…was a tremendous success! His Haven provided over 100 children the opportunity to shop for free gifts to give their parents, grandparents and other caregivers on Christmas morning.

One mom shared that it was the highlight of her son’s Christmas last year. “He did not want to open his own gifts before my husband and I opened ours!!” One young shopper was in and out of our shopping area in no time. When asked how he was able to make a selection so quickly he replied, “I saw what I knew my mom would like, right away. She loves fuzzy things!”

This is a no cost event. Just a smile due at registration! We saw smiles from adults tonight too, as they patiently sat in the waiting area while their children shopped. After one of our staff jokingly made a comment about parents not peeking before Christmas, one dad commented, “Hardest part is waiting!” Hang in their adults…Christmas is less than two weeks away!

While shoppers were waiting for their turn, many of them took time to color Christmas ornaments and put festive messages and pictures in Christmas cards that will be hand delivered to a local nursing facility just in time for Christmas!

More happy smiles!!

PJ Drop 2022

A few months ago one of our staff said, “ Every child needs new jammies for Christmas morning!”

Facts! The following week our organization began collecting and sorting pajamas, sleep essentials and more.

T’was after a quick trip to Target, when all thorough His Haven, PJ’s were placed on hangers where they wouldn’t long be stayin’!
The jammies were all hung on the racks with care, in anticipation of all the kids that would soon be there!
We are making this an annual event… you won’t want your child to miss it!

We are thrilled to share that His Haven served over 70 Elmira children during our first annual PJ Drop. Children from infant to eighteen came through our doors to shop at our free event and left with new pajamas. Some even selected slippers, socks and handmade sleeper quilts to complement their cozy, new threads!

One single mom arrived with her five children after recently relocating from the South and we supplied them with winter coats as well. Our eventful evening did not stop there!

During our PJ Drop, our delightful volunteers from Penn Ave Methodist were serving a scrumptious baked ham Christmas dinner in our dining hall. Over 100 community members were blessed by their labor of love.

A TREMENDOUS thank you to our staff, volunteers and donating community partners!

Once again, Elmira, giving looks good on you!

Join Us for Our Back-to-School Kids’ Clothing Drop and Community Dinner!

It’s back-to-school season! His Haven hopes that your children have enjoyed their first few weeks of school. We know how challenging it can be to get used to a new schedule once summer is over. We also know that it’s super easy to forget important items your children might need for school because of the rush to make sure they’re ready for their first day. That’s exactly why we decided to schedule our clothing giveaway event for a few weeks after the school year was underway.

We hope you’ll join us on Friday, September 23rd from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm for our Back-to-School FREE Kids’ Clothing Drop and Community Dinner!

His Haven’s Back-to-School Free Kids’ Clothing Drop

We have been so blessed to receive many new and gently used children’s clothing items from individuals, businesses, and organizations in the Elmira community for this event. Here’s just an example of what we will have on hand for your child to choose from:

  • Shirts for all seasons
  • Dresses and skirts
  • Pants for boys and girls
  • Shoes
  • Jackets
  • Hats
  • …much more!

We have just about every size, too, so we’re confident that you’ll be able to find items that your children will need now or even later on in the school year.

And if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, no worries!  We’re always getting donations, and we may just get some of the items you were looking for in for our next giveaway.  We’d love to have you come back!

Pre-Registration for the Free Kid’s Clothing Drop is required, so if you and your family plan to attend, please click here to secure your spot on September 23rd.

Please Stay for Our Community Dinner!

Once you’ve found everything you need for your kids, we hope your family will stick around or return a little later to have dinner with us!  Dinner is free and is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm. No pre-registration is required for the dinner.

There’s truly nothing better than having members of our community get together to eat and enjoy some great conversation. Our community dinners are a great place for parents to meet each other and for the children to make some new friends too!

Let’s not forget the food!  All our meals are specially prepared, home-cooked meals for our guests!  We’re keeping what’s for dinner a secret for now, but we can promise you – it will be outstanding!

Steak and Shave Men’s Day

Over a dozen men from Elmira attended His Haven’s third annual Steak and Shave Men’s Day yesterday afternoon. Our staff and volunteers delivered smiles, love and encouragement to each and every one of the men that attended. One of our guests commented, “This is amazing. I can’t stop crying.”
Steak and Shave Men’s Day is intended to offer gentle support for the homeless, Veterans, single dads and men coming out of addiction. It was a wonderful day from start to finish.
